Happy Earth Day: Norco helps keep your old tires out of the landfill

Green Team Update from Norco

Norco Green Team

VanCycle always strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible; we reuse and recycle as much material as possible. We appreciate the efforts made by our suppliers such as Norco. The following is an excerpt from an article in Norco’s latest dealer newsletter.

“It used to be that if you peeled an old tire off a bicycle it went straight into the trash, but times are changing. It’s now easier than ever to up the green efforts of your shop by recycling old, used and trashed tires rather than letting them languish in a landfill. Maybe you already recycle your tires, but if not then we may be able to help.

Until a year ago there really was nowhere to recycle old bicycle tires. To that point it had been cost-prohibitive for recycling companies to accept bicycle tires because the machines were not set up to deal with them. But a little innovative thinking at the Western Rubber Group, a local BC company, yielded a simple solution: if you bundle the tires together into a shape that mimics the width of car or truck tires then you could feed them into the machines like normal. After a little investigation by the Norco Green Team we found a local tire dealer that would let us drop off used tires to recycle at no charge.

This is just one more way that we are working towards a greener existence.”

If you have old tires you would like to recycle, VanCycle can help with one of the following options:

  1. Come and visit us at during our next special event (check our Calendar of Events)
  2. We can pick them up during a service call
  3. Arrange a pick-up the next time we’re on a service call in your neighbourhood

Yea, Norco!
